Staff Assaults - 5 charged

 

The defendants have all been dealt with and have received the following:  

  • The youth who left a Supertram driver with a broken jaw was charged with GBH and Assault for which he has to pay the driver £800.00 and has received a supervision order for 2 years and a curfew order from 6pm to 7am for 6 months.
  • A young female was reprimanded due to first offence.
  • Another youth received a referral order for 9 months for the offences and has to pay the other member of staff Â£100.00.  
  • A further female received a referral order for 6 months and to pay the driver Â£50.00  
  • Another youth received a referral order for 4 months and to Pay the driver Â£50.00.  
  • A further youth is being dealt with by the magistrates court.

Both Stagecoach Supertram and South Yorkshire Police view attacks on public transport staff very seriously and will always seek to prosecute those responsible for attacks.

Supertram vehicles are fitted with high resolution CCTV cameras that cover the length of the tram and have proven extremely effective in crime detection and prevention.
