The electricity is to be purchased through Opus Energy who are a leading independent supplier of electricity to the business sector. They are committed to offering UK businesses cheaper electricity by purchasing from renewable or greener power sources. The lower cost is passed onto the customer.

Energy supplied by Opus comes from cleaner, low carbon sources – 70% from small hydro , 1% from on – shore wind, 0.5 % from biomass and 28.5% from cleaner Combined Heat and Power (CHP). The use of renewable sources to generate electricity will decrease emissions of carbon dioxide, one of the greenhouse gases that contributes to global warming.

This approach, in addition to various internal projects such as heating and lighting controls, power saving units and waste compaction illustrates the drive at Supertram to become greener.
