Overcrowding on trams at present, particularly during morning and afternoon peak periods, is a problem which, if it continues, may discourage people from travelling on the tram network and is also restraining growth.

Currently there are 25 trams within the fleet and in order to provide additional vehicles to help resolve these problems a funding bid will be submitted to the Department for Transport this summer.
